October 30, 2008, "Japan-U.S. Investment Initiative Seminar in Shizuoka" was held in Shizuoka city.　

　 The Japan-U.S. investment initiative seminar has been taking place in two countries since 2002 for the purpose in promoting investment to the counterpart country, and the seminar was held in Chicago in U.S. and in Shizuoka city for the first time in Japan this year.

　 About 190 persons participated in it, such as company and administrative officers, etc. from Japan and U.S.
In the seminar, a keynote lectures were delivered by Mr. Hayashi, head director of JETRO, and Mr. Sugiyama, general manage, Industry Department, Shizuoka Pref. Gov't. After special lectures were addressed by Mr. Shimada, president of Chiba University of Commerce, and Mr. A. Smith, chairman of US Chamber of Commerce in Japan, a panel discussion, with panelists representing firms advanced to the counterpart country, was held under the theme of creating an environment for further active mutual investment from the countries.

　 On the following day, October 31, a tour was taken place for the participants from US company staff and state gov't administrative officers. They visited companies and makers representing Shizuoka prefecture in transportation equipment, optical technology, and medical equipment industries.
